The Heart
Do you ever stop and think about how incredible the human body is?
I do. And the heart still blows my mind.
Your heart beats roughly 100,000 times a day, moving thousands of gallons of blood through your body every 24 hours. If it stops, everything stops. Even more remarkable, the heart can continue beating while someone is unconscious or in a coma. It just keeps working, no matter what.
We’re given this organ for free at birth, and most of us barely think about it.
We push our bodies hard. Sometimes in good ways, sometimes not. And still, the heart keeps showing up, beat after beat. Not everyone is as lucky. For some, the heart decides when it’s done.
Globally, millions of people die each year from cardiovascular disease, and many of those cases are preventable. That’s the hard truth. We can either take care of our heart or slowly wear it down. The choice is ours.
It’s wild to think this powerful, life-keeping organ is sitting quietly behind skin and bone, doing its job without complaint.
So when you’re having a bad day, or things don’t feel great, remember this:
You still have one of the greatest gifts there is. Your heart.
Take care of it.
Move your body regularly.
Fuel it with real food.
Manage stress however that looks for you meditation, walking, breathing, yoga, time outside. Stress adds up, and the heart feels it.
Be good to your heart, and it will keep you alive.
